Some poor guy is hurting after being literally torn in half. Apparently, this tragedy happened when Mark Levin disagreed with Beck saying, “John McCain would have been worse for the country than Barack Obama.” It really, really…….. *REALLY* pains me to say this, but Mark Levin is wrong. But in Mark’s defense, I have little doubt he only heard some sound bite of Beck’s words, and may not yet have heard the whole commentary about McCain/Obama. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but hopefully someone will read it and find it helpful today. Tonight I have been surfing the net and checking up on some of my friends from myspace. If you're one of those friends, please know that I finally took down my Christmas music! I'm worse than those people who leave their lights up until June! haha Anyway, I was browsing

In Search of a OneArmed Economist

How are we doing? Our Trade of the Decade, that is? Yesterday, gold took a big dip down – minus $15. It closed under the $1,000 level. Now we’ll find out if the Chinese are supporting it at $1,000…or not. If so, it should soon bounce back. If not…well, who knows? But our Trade of the Decade doesn’t worry about what the metal does on a day-to-day basis. Back in 1998, we just noticed that the gold/stocks relationship had reached an absurd extreme. It took 43 ounces of gold to buy the Dow s

Modified from Hu et al., 2009. OK by now the ‘secret’ is probably out and the ‘new basal avialian’ that my colleagues and I described earlier this year, Anchiornis , turns out not to be an avialian at all, but in fact is a very basal troodontid. Those new specimens I mentioned at the time brought in a ton of extra detail and information that allowed researchers to firm up the diagnosis of this animal and show conclusively that it is indeed a troodontid. Are you rather bored at work that you can’t seem to find an impetus to step up your game or offer something new to the organization? Care For The Dying

Apparently Canterbury DHB are starting a two year pilot of the Liverpool Care Pathway for the terminally ill . This scheme has been running in Britain for some time amidst a great deal of controversy. The actual pathway, developed by the Marie Curie Palliative Care Institute in Liverpool, itself is more of a framework for developing your own end-of-life care pathways, rather than a prescriptive plan and , in itself, is relatively harmless.
