Escape from Punchbowlism

This post was written by StatsGuy, a regular commenter here and very occasional guest contributor. We asked him to expand on the ideas he put forward in this comment on the relationships between monetary policy, international capital flows, and bank capital requirements. Former Fed Chairman William McChesney Martin is most famous for his notorious quip that the job of the Fed is to “take away the punchbowl just as the party gets going.” It seems this has evolved into a full fledged theoHao Jin submits: The Fed is going to keep interest rates near zero for the foreseeable future. Sundrella aluminum patio umbrellas in production since

Some days I am just so gosh-darned pleased with myself, and today is one of those days — due to this discovery. Last weekend at the Ohana Luau on the Lake tiki fest, David and I drove a mile into downtown Lake George to check it out. There were lots of groovy 50s and 60s motels, so we took a long walk exploring. At one of them I spotted these really cool aluminum patio umbrellas and, oh my goodness, did they not ever look like they came straight from the 1950s? Well, it turns out that — they a2009 Vaccination Odyssey By A. Shortsighted CEOs

Or was it nearsighted? Or maybe just plain blind as bats. At any rate this is a humorous, and sad, collection of quotes from erstwhile kings of Wall Street. Is This the Time to Be a Contrarian

Many successful investors and speculators, like Warren Buffett and George Soros, are said to be contrarians. But what does this really mean? And is it true? Let’s have a look at the concept of contrarianism…Growth and value investing has been on life support for a long time now. Last year, someone finally pulled the plug. A quick search of the ETF database will show you something quite telling—71 ETFs are dedicated to a slice of the market self-defined as either “growth” or “value.” That’s nearly 10 percent of the U.S. ETF market. But honestly, why? First, there’s a definitional issue. Russell defines their growth and value universe based on two characterist[In order for an American resistance movement, or any resistance, to actually challenge the "True Evil Doers," connected with Rockefeller and Rothschild, they must first overcome the political divisions which have been created, that is the hallmark of The Beast network.  Republicans and Democrats, capitalists and communists, right and left, Heritage Foundation and MoveOn...these are not natural divisions, they are bi-products of manipulation, created to keep us from uniting against them.
