Yesterday we posted a report from a model Maoist school — that discussed new forms of education that are being developed in areas of revolutionary strength. In response, Fritz raised a number of sharp questions, starting with his own recent experience :“Does anybody know when this articI found it a very interesting and useful theory to know and use as a teacher. Interesting Speaker on June th

The Greenwich Public Schools has arranged for Dr. Bernice McCarthy, an author, speaker, facilitator and founder of About Learning, Inc. and the 4Mat System - to speak on June 25, 2009, 7PM at Eastern Middle School. It promises to be an interesting presentation based on the understanding that people perceive and process information in different ways and the impact that that has on student learning AND in the context of professional learning,b e it in the private or public sector. See attached One of the more interesting outcomes of the Three-Phase Design model has been that, while in and of itself, it describes a strategic context from which to build and maintain online teaching and e-learning environments, it does not focus on more granular aspects of the design process proper. According to Rod Sims there are six factors are essential to achieving engaging, interactive and memorable learning experiences . The 3PD Model supports these factors by establi

Fred Shannon Interactionist Theory in Second Language Acquisition

Vygotsky, a psychologist and social constructivist, laid the foundation for the interactionists view of language acquisition. According to Vygotsky, social interaction plays an important role in the learning process and proposed the ...Paper written as a contribution to the Ars Electronica symposium on Cloud Intelligence . Let's take as a starting point the discussion of 'cloud intelligence' on the conference website: In the cloud of connections, we each become social neurons, mimicking the biological human brain but on a giant scale. This collective knowledge is far beyond anything a single search engine could index and archive. Intelligence is spreading everywhere, every minute, and cloud computing can draw new links acLev Vygotsky was a pioneer psychologist who lived in Moscow. I have great respect for his studies and found his Mind And Society an absorbing read. One of the precious ideas he brought to us is what he called the Zone Of Proximal Development. I was reminded of this recently when reading Laurie Bartel’s post, Lev Vygotsky & ZPD , where she called for elaboration or clarification of ZPD. Vygotsky had an interest in scaffolding, particularly in relation to learner development inTo answer how teachers, parents and peers can jointly contribute to students' learning, we must first grapple with the intrinsic network relationship between the three factors, relating them to student's learning; then understand the roles each of the three individual components play; and finally evaluate the extent of the effects/contributions by the three factors on individual scale, as there are differing degree to the extent of effects/contributions, and eventually the overall scale. There are some serious connections getting formed out there. Meanwhile, there is some real energy in the edublogosphere concerning this course in connectivism.  So, what about ChinesePod from a connectivist perspective? As it happens, connectivist theory and ChinesePod practice are su
