I truly cannot believe that the summer is mainly behind us.  Where did the weeks go? Unlike a couple of years ago when we took our first real family vacation and traveled to Vermont we lacked not only the money to afford a trip this year, but also lacked the money to afford my taking a week off without pay . I had hoped to do more in the way of day trips.  I had hoped to maybe do a weekend trip somewhere. Today I am grateful for a nice weekend. Filled with rest and laughter. Filled with the opportunity to be away from my telemarketing job. Yes, there is life outside chess! I actually went nine whole days without playing a single game of chess. No cracktion at the Marshall, no blitz on FICS, no slugging it out with Fritz, nadda, nothing, zippo! I didn't even have to go on vacation to force myself away from the board. Did I suffer from withdrawal? Have a bad case of the shakes? Was I asking where is my next game coming from? Nope. I had other things on my mind. Taekwondo took up a lot my time. I had two important events wMartial Arts come in different forms and they are not only confined to Kung-fu or Taekwondo, which is popularized a lot in television and the movies. You would be surprised to know that certain forms of fighting are also called martial arts. To learn and practice martial arts, one should be well equipped with the proper supplies. Martial arts have different origins. The term “Martial” is derived from the Roman god of war named “Mars”. Martial Arts simply mean “the art of war”. Unfortunately, nothing is really true to its origin anymore. The commercial & social values & principle have infected our Martial Arts the World over. Obviously, no place more so than the USA. Instructor’s / schools, now sell different colored uniforms, belts, patches etc. simply because its a way of making more money. Is it called dojo or dojang or kwoon, mmm’ , i have noticed that in the states pretty much everything seems called Karate. Supriya got a double-promotion and is now a dark-blue belt. Aseem and I got green belts. I started TaeKwonDo exactly a year ago and it's the best thing I did in 2007. I have lost a fair amount of fat, gained a fair bit of muscle and flexibility - and had a great time doing it with the kids!
