New Dining Regime Chez Nous

Here’s the way the week days go: LL has coffee for breakfast; I have tea and toast. Perhaps one or the other of us has a bowl of cereal. We sort of try to get through the day without eating much. LL seldom has lunch, unless she goes out with a colleague or to a meeting, and then it’s always something light. I, the stay-at-home guy, tend to snack through the day, a handful of nuts here, a slice or two of cheese toast there, whoa! where did those cookies come from? By evening, we’re ravenous, and Somebody from the Sonoma County Wine Library called the other day to do a little phone interview with me. The Sizzling Restaurants of Sonoma Valley

We at Haute Living cannot hide our love affair with Napa Valley. From our Haute Ambassadors who represent the region, like director of winemaking at Robert Mondavi Winery, Genevieve Janssens, to our most recent San Francisco cover profile of “The First Lady of Napa Valley,” Mrs. Margrit Mondavi, to our coverage of Auction Napa Valley , we have long been romanticized by the region. But just because our affections for Napa run deep doesn’t mean that her sister region is sitting by idly quI’m moving on to new beginnings — seeking an opportunity to reinvent myself like Madonna has on so many occasions. Since I began writing “Corkscrew” in 2001, I’ve churned out around 450 wine columns that have run in Creative Loafing Atlanta, Tampa, Charlotte and Sarasota, among others. Occupying the remainder of my time was a full time gig at CL involving marketing and product development. This paid my mortgage and fed my nagging food, travel and wine habit, but my passion always soaked into theWednesday, September 23rd, 2009 at 10:03 pm   If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed.

Oggi lo spettacolo, però, appaI felt a definite chill in the air tonight, on this first day of fall, as I walked my dog, Yoda, after work.  While it thrills me that fall has arrived, and events like football and hockey season have kicked off, it makes me sad to see the fun summer days of 2009 drift by.    However, knowing Texas, I have a feeling today’s chill will be gone soon, and at least one or two warm weather days will hit us again.  And when they do here are a few ideas for sipping that will pair well with the end

Calmer winds late Tuesday aided firefighters battling the blaze near the city of Moorpark northwest of Los Angeles, but winds were expected to pick up early Wednesday, with gusts expected between 12- and 25 mph. The blaze was 10 percent contained late Tuesday, said county When it comes to food festivals, I've decided that the peak of the season isn't the three-month span between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Instead, it's right this minute, when the last of the season's seafood festivals converge with harvest celebrations and the beginning of chili cookoffs . We can't wait to check out the bites at the Taste of Petaluma . Where will this week be leading you? Let us know in the comments below! New York, NY : StarChefs New York Rising Stars Revue -

Wine Dinner And Stuff and Such and Beyond Wednesday

I apologize for the blatant copy and paste of information below, but I had an emergency surgery on my eye yesterday for a torn retina and I only have a day or two to suck sympathy out of you and my co-workers. PLUS, I have to get ready for this afternoon’s SideDish CheeseHead’s CELEBRATION OF  TEXAS CHEESE AND WINE EVENT at Celebration . The weather is going to be fabulous and we’ll be out on the patio. I’ll be the one with the cheesehead hat and the black eye patch! Back to business:

The way it used to be

Got the Husch Vineyards newsletter in the mail yesterday. It was all about that Anderson Valley winery’s 30th anniversary under its current ownership. The newsletter had the usual grainy pictures from the 1970s of longhaired guys and old cars, and it put me in a nostalgic state of mind for “the old days.” Back when Tony and Gretchen Husch started their little winery, wine was st
