This entry originally took place on September 12. What's the first place you should eat at during your first trip to New York City after taking a red-eye flight from Los Angeles, then stumbling around Bed-Stuy in the wee hours of the morning until crashing on your friend's floor around 6 a.m and waking up a few hours later in an uncomfortable daze because your internal clock is still three hours behind and floors are not comfortable sleeping surfaces, unless the floor is made of mattress? W hen we have people in from out of town, we almost want to prove to them, that yes, they too could pick up and leave New York or Los Angeles in favor of Austin. You can find here what you’re used to… you know, all that and a bag of chips . Two weeks ago, I finally got the chance to make the trip up to Keyport to visit the little place known for it’s big flavors, Drew’s Bayshore Bistro . When I wrote my review on Trinity two summers ago, I got quite a few comments from people telling me I had to try Drew’s. Well, Drew’s is still going strong and yes, I did have to try it. I called the day of for a reservation, so my choices were 5:30 or 9pm. As you can see by the well lit picture, we chose to go early bird. S ince we have just returned from the beach, I don’t have any thrifty treasures to show you today. Actually we got back on Friday and even though it was raining here on Saturday a.m., I did get out and hit a few sales, but it was a bust. I didn’t find much of anything, so I should have stayed home. I’m starting to drag right now on getting out to the yardsales, so I’m going to wrap up the Thrifty Treasures party next weekend and we’ll resume again next Spring. I know many of you want to keep What a totally beautiful and wonderful day!!! It started with an in-flight nap for 45 minutes with all of the following - I woke up and got a TON done!!! 3 MNT review articles, a 480 project half done and a freelance article! Lunch on the flight was anticlimactic – a bagel + cheese sandwich around 1:30PM. My airport choices were Quiznos , a Chicken + Cranberry salad or a Veggie Sandwich. I chose a Multigrain bagel with Swiss cheese,

Not that Yelp! is any kind of food Bible, but I’m always glad when my general sentiments are in line with what others are saying about a restaurant. Sometimes I’m clueless, as apparently was the case with Corky’s Kitchen . For the most part, though, our opinion is just another crafted for your enjoyment. That brings me to SOUTH - Authentic Southern Cuisine. It’s a six-month old eatery It’s another week for Publix, I get kind of tired of making lists sometimes but I do love that every few days there are new deals!!! This week there are three changes. First the obvious you now can make a list straight from this site! Second my husband helped me tremendously by typing out the deals but he thought my way of keeping the full price on B1G1 deals was too confusing so each item is listed at the sale price. . **Don’t worry thisNew York to New Orleans and back - Amtrak celebrates this 30-year route. This weekend is one of my favorite weekends of the year: Decatur Book Fest. I am HUGELY looking forward to it, and trying to get my talk to come together and gel in my head, and excited about seeing people I adore and meeting authors whose books I love and I know many people who are fond of songs are looking forward to the music and Decatur is a FOOD town, and I am going to Watershed and I am eating the Shrimp and Grits, whose cheese content alone makes my recipe for FDon't forget to check your Instasave before you shop - deals vary from customer to customer. Breaking a FastWhen I was growing up Dad was in charge of breakfast during the week. Mom taught at the university and in those days that meant she had to dress up with a dress and full makeup. Dad was a scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratories and didn't even have to wear a tie to work . So while my mother had to go through the dressing ritual Dad was making breakfast for us kids.Oatmeal Perfection, as a general rule, is often more a state of mind than a state of being. The lavish Ritz-Carlton Lodge Reynolds Plantation Resort , about 75 miles from Atlanta, is the exception to the rule. Here, perfection is a tangible concept that abounds around every corner. Nestled on the shore of Lake Oconee, 75 miles from Atlanta, the 251-room resort is not your everyday luxurious Ritz. Draped in ivy and edged by pines, the resort exudes a tranquility that stems from its placid setting at

Heather says: Yesterday, while poking around Friendfeed, I came across an entry where Trish announced her intentions to eat dinner at home every night for the month of September . Last month I wasn’t as good as I could have been and I’ve decided to join in Trish in her challenge. I do have two dinner/ happy hour meetings and a conference that will force me to break my rule, but like Trish, I’m making exceptions for those nights, since they were planned before the end of August. Are you intere

Is it too early to say I’m not going to like this season? What if I said I didn’t like it after only seeing the 60 second preview? Sibling rivalries? Cancer survivors? Las Vegas, monetary rewards, award winners and ego-driven executive chefs? You know I like my petty little dramas, but if we’re going to turn into America’s Next Top Model with this additional nonsense, then I’d like to see some better eye candy. Aren’t there chefs out there who look like Jason Statham? No? Sigh. Then let’s get to

I adored our wedding reception. It flew by like mad, but here’s what I know: I have distinct memories of everyone who was there, it felt exactly like we’d hoped it would, and we’ve never had so much fun. Crossing the street heading over to the reception: We chose Ray LaMontagne’s “You Are the Best Thing” as our song, and my heart bursts through my chest every time I hear it, still. We had a buffet of local food featuring the Outer Banks at its best: fresh shrimp served with gri
