Resisting the Influence of Evangelicalism Part VIII The Third of Evangelicalisms Faulty Practices Speaking in Tongues by Pr Klemet Preus

Speaking in Tongues I could mention altar calls, praise bands, seeker services, obsession with counting converts as proof of God’s presenceWe who call ourselves Evangelical Christians owe a great debt to Martin Luther. Luther, a Catholic monk who learned that the just shall live by faith rather than by religious behavior, led a Reformation. His impact demonstrates how movements often happen. Rarely if ever do spiritually renewing movements come from the center of a tradition; rather, most of the time movements start at the margins and bring life to the center. In Luther’s case a radical break had to occur because of the flawed sotOver 700 people attended the Conference of Southern Baptists Evangelists meeting on June 21 in Louisville, Kentucky.  The meeting featured Johnny Hunt, president of the Southern Baptist Convention, and Ergun Caner, president of Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary.  Caner preached on “Engaging the Last Days’ Culture,” emphasizing the importance of theological education and the impact divinity graduates can have on secular culture.  Caner noted in the home locale of Southern Baptist Theological Al Baker talks about street evangelism in a post modern world. I like this guy. There aren't a whole lot of English Lutherans. I'm not one either. However, my ancestors are from Suffolk, and I professed the Lutheran faith, taught in Scripture and correctly stated in the Book of Concord, when I was 46. Close enough. At least to really admire Robert Barnes. Robert Barnes was born about 1495 in Lynn, formally Kings Lynn, Norfolk, England.
