Abstract This paper is concerned with the impacts of strict patents in the pharmaceutical industry, focusing on the Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights Agreement. It discusses the historical and current policy context, to better understand how strict patents affect the availability of essential drugs in developing countries. The research shows that the pharmaceutical industry prioritises profit above health. Strict patents reduce the availability and afWhenever you seek to change your behavior, you will run up against ingrained habits.
