LaGrand Reconsidering The Wizard ofTuskegee

September 26, 2009Leave a commentGo to comments by James B. LaGrandA review of Robert J. Norrell’s Up from History: The Life of Booker T. WashingtonThere’s few more shameful or demeaning things for a black man to be called than an “Uncle Tom.” The term connotes passivity and cowardice and a lack of self-respect. Over the years, one of the most frequent targets of this ugly epithet has been the black leader and founder of the Tuskegee Institute Booker T. You should go to a white church

I’m off today. I have vacation planned each of the next nine Fridays. I played a solo round of disc golf this morning to start my day. I shot a –4 at El Dorado Park in Long Beach . I felt like coffee after the game so I took my stinky self over to a Starbucks in Cerritos. While sitting outside by myself, I was interrupted by two young Koreans. They asked me if I knew where I was going when I died. Since I was in no mood for company let along Christian proselytizers, I simply saiChildren are not given the correct tools in order to read well these days. My care has been superb Re: "Paying a premium in Dallas -- City outspends most in U.S., but that doesn't ensure better treatment," first in a five-part series, "The Cost of Care," last Sunday news story. Here's a video of kids singing a song of praise to Obama: And here's a news story by CBS.Which is not about the video. The story is about the reaction of angry, illiterate, right-wingers to the video being posted by Fox News. They also misquote Fox by saying that part of the song was sung to "the tune of 'Jesus Loves the Little Children,'"What Fox said was the song "quotes directly from the spiritual "Jesus Loves the Little Children," though Jesus' name is replaced with Obama'

Obama On Letterman Talks Afghanistan Race And HeartShaped Potatoes

Intelligent and funny. Damn, I’ve missed that so much! The question, and more to the point, Obama’s answer, about race brings out a great point. Yes, Obama was a black man before the election. As in, the landslide that was the election came from people that knew full well what Obama was all about. That The Castros’ Black Knight The death last week of Juan Almeida, Cuba’s most prominent Afro-descended leader, leaves just three “historicos,” survivors of all the revolution’s conflicts and crises of the last fifty-six years. Only the Castro brothers and Ramiro Valdes remain among those who assaulted the Moncada garrison in July 1953, were imprisoned on the Isle of Pines, trained in Mexico after their release, waded ashore calamitously from the Granma, fought for two years as guerrillas

America Has Been Here Before

By Eric Margolis, The Toronto Sun , Sep 20, 2009 “We should hang a huge neon sign over Afghanistan: “CAUTION: DEJA VU.” Afghanistan’s much ballyhooed recent election staged by its foreign occupiers turned out to be a fraud wrapped up in a farce — as this column predicted a month ago. It was as phony and meaningless as U.S.-run elections in Vietnam in the 1970s. Canada played a shameful role in facilitating this obviously rigged vote. Meanwhile, American and NATO generals running thKids of today are not getting correct skills they need to read well. FoxFriends Still Pimping Ashleigh Kenny Teabagger Shirt

Reported by Priscilla - September 21, 2009 - Remember Ashleigh Kenny? She’s a sweet, freedom loving gal from Georgia who got a nice little PR bump from Fox&Friends for her R.I.P. the Constitution Tee Shirt that she created as an element of couture for the well dressed teabagger. Well, she’s back for even more free PR from her “friends” from Fox who seem to be acknowledging that they gave her the Fox&Friends “bump.” If there is any doubt about Fox News’ partisan preference

America Sees Red

There is a Jewish tale , in which a man is promised that he will be granted any wish he chooses, so long as his neighbour will get twice as much. After some thought he states his wish: please put me out one of my eyes! This is a very American attitude. An American refuses to get free medical care, if the condition is that others will get it, too. This we learned from the rallies against Obama’s health reform. The slogans and ideas of the demonstrators were just too weird! A little girl asks

Amanpours Ransom Demand

Is anyone else tired of CNN’s Christianne Amanpour? Every time she goes to a Moslem country, we hear that they are poor and therefore will have to kill Americans. This is nothing short of granting Moslems permission to hold the world hostage for ransom. We owe them nothing. Zero. They can go to hell, I couldn’t care less. Why should we do anything for them? A pair of Anglo-Saxon brothers invented the airplane. A Dutch guy created the printing press. An Israeli invented a cell phone. And you should pay more taxes for social programs that never seem to work. And you cannot work in the social services, anyway, not because you are qualified, but because of your politics or skin color or faith. All, Some, and None. Decades ago, voices were raised about the efficiency of social programs, immigration policy, and general lack of sense in the (then s

Ann Coulter Liberal lies about health care Joe Wilson edition

Worldnet Daily Posted: September 16, 2009 6:00 pm Eastern © 2009 I’m trying to get to the next installment of my Pulitzer Prize-deserving series on liberal lies about national health care, but apparently liberals have decided to torture us by neurotically fixating on one lie. After President Barack Obama gave a speech to a joint session of Congress last week passionately defending his national health-care plan, the Democrats were agog at the brilliance of the speech. Nancy Pelosi was "Shipwrecked in A Hurricane of Lies" by Jim Quinn “I believe that it is better to tell the truth than a lie. I believe it is better to be free than to be a slave. And I believe it is better to know than to be ignorant.” – H.L. Mencken "As I survey what passes for governance in this country today, I yearn for the days past when truth meant something. The supposedly “progressive” politicians who call themselves leaders of this country would not know truth if it dropped from heaven into th
