Those who would defend the coup in Honduras are getting more creative. Because a Miami reporter apparently doesn’t understand Spanish, when Zelaya said he was being bombarded with “radiacíon”, the Herald made it sound as if the guy was spinning fantasies . Maybe reporter Frances Robles doesn’t hear well, or maybe her Spanish is bad, or maybe her editors need to invest in a good dictionary. Police in Pittsburgh are using sound blasters and other non-lethal weaponry to ward off protesters at the G-20 summit. The sonic weapon is the LRAD or Long Range Acoustic Device , a super loud-hailer deployed by U.S. forces and famously used to fight off pirates . According to the Guardian , LRAD is being used in two ways : as a megaphone to order protesters to disperse, and, when they disobey, as an “ear-splitting siren” to drive them away. This has happened repeatedly, with the crowd asThe building of a prisoner of war camp at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba was as big a screw-up by the Bush administration as is attempts by the Obama administration to close it. Neither administration understood the long-range problems inherent in the system that was created. That’s the analysis we observe in stories today reported in three major newspapers. Retiring Marine Major Gen. Michael Lehnert was the commander of Joint Task Force 160 which built Camp X-Ray in 2002. He was given little guid

If Teddy Roosevelt were alive today he’d probably drive one of these babies – the 2011 Ford Super Duty pickup truck. Teddy would drive it into battle. He’d drive it on safari. He’d drive it all over the great outdoors. Why? Because the 2011 Super Duty has that rare combination of powerful capability and quiet confidence – just like Teddy himself. It features Ford’s new 6.7-liter Power Stroke® diesel engine, which is expected to be the quietest, smoothest diesel on the market, outperforming itsBut Bailey appears too harsh, and too strict with herself, I feel. Television viewers across the Arab world were in for a treat this Ramadan, with the airing of a special programme on Japan. In its fifth season, Khawater visited Japan, where a young Saudi preacher Ahmed Al Shugairy explained the Japanese success story to Arab and Muslim viewers. The one-month show explained Japan's experience of progress and reasons behind its success. Disquiet Reservations September 21, 2009 This is a piece of futurist, speculative fiction, mixed in with the concerns and events of the present day. The real life personages in this piece are my great heroes. My admiration for their work is part of the reason for why I chose to write this. Okay, not all of them are my heroes. Project Runway is all about vision and delusion. The vision to tell a boldface lie, the delusion that people will believe it. The vision of finally having a good episode, the delusion that we'll not make fun of it. After a few weeks of flailing around like Jason Blair trying to cover up his fake quotes, Runway was back in form last night with a good, creative challenge, some hot paper dolls, and a serious heaping mound of drama thanks to Hot Tranny Meth Johnny. By J. Thomas Duffy I haven't done much on Glenn Beck here. It's already satire, as soon as he opens his mouth, and we don't want to get into the daily "Look what Beck Said Now" circus. His prodigious lunacy long ago granted him being grandfather in The Garlic's "Ignorant Dolt" roster . It would be one thing if a major news periodical, like, say, Time , decided to look into the smegma that is Glen Beck, the lies, the racism, the fomenting of anarchy , and report onIn a cost-saving move that is undoubtedly the product of a messed up economy, Universal Pictures will stop spending money to develop advancing projects for the remainder of this year. Thus, unless a project is being fast-tracked, no progress will be made on films under Universal’s umbrella until January. Why is the studio freezing developments so late in the game — doesn’t September seem awfully late? While not all projects have been yielded — those that will constitute the bulk of the studi

I once listened to a speech by Patrick Sookhdeo, a brave former Muslim who has published books such as Global Jihad: The Future in the Face of Militant Islam . Sookhdeo had done a lot of excellent — and frightening — research regarding the Islamization of Western Europe, especially Britain. He recalled having a conversation with a senior Western official regarding what would happen if Muslims in a region of, say, Britain or the Netherlands, should declare that they would no longer accept the

And for a country like the Netherlands, it's far more likely to work. But the USA has a much bigger population and 50 states, each of which would have different laws. I'd be OK with a system that's OK for everyone. But when a country as large as the US tries to socialize health care, what happens is crappy health care for most, decent (but 10 times as expensive) health care for a very very small minority.
