Sermon Holy Wisdom James a

My first sermon preached at First Presbyterian Church of Hallock, Minnesota.  The service was a lot of fun to lead .  It’s a beautiful worship space, a very friendly congregation, and a fun place at which to minister — well, so far so good, at least! Audio next week maybe, but here’s the text: September 20, 2009 FPC Hallock Holy Wisdom James 3:13-4:3; 7-8a After this morning’s bulletin had already been printed I had a momentary panic I find myself a full time "stay at home mom", and I'm not sure what that definition means to me. Do I buy an apron and start making cookies on a daily basis? Do I try to become "super mom" and work from home, raise my daughter, maintain a home and be a good wife? Do I say hang it all and start eating bonbons while watching soaps? I don't know, but hopefully this blog will help me figure this whole new thing out! The only thing I'm sure about is that I'm Mommy and she's Baby! =)

Average Overweight Housewife

The journey of an average overweight housewife on her way to health and fitness During the dust-up that occurred when President Obama decided he was going to speak to the school children of America, we heard the word "indoctrination" tossed around quite a bit. Glen Beck and Fox News tried to convince America that President Obama encouraging kids to stay in school, find something they were passionate about and pursue it as a career was an attempt to "indoctrinate" them into...errr...s“Then Manasseh knew that the Lord he was God.” 2 Chronicles 33:13MANASSEH is one of the most remarkable characters whose history is written in the sacred pages. We are accustomed to mention his name in the list of those who greatly sinned, and yet found great mercy. Side by side with Saul of Tarsus, with that great sinner who washed the feet of Jesus with her tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head, and with the thief that died upon the cross — a forgiven sinner at the eleventh hour, we

The Relation of Church and Family

Introduction: In the last couple of decades a significant ecclesiastical trend has arisen out of the home-schooling movement which raises significant issues with regard to the relation of the church and the family.  The movement I have in mind is associated with Vision Forum, Patriarch Magazine , and represented by the book by Eric Wallace, Uniting Church and Home , and the New Testament Restoration Foundation.  The vi"The heart of her husband trusts in her confidently and relies on and believes in her securely, so that he has no lack of gain or need of spoil. She comforts, encourages, and does him only good as long as there is life within her." Proverbs 31:11,12 Who does your heart belong to? Does it belong fully to your husband, or are there areas...secret places, if you will, that perhaps belong to someone else ? I want you to take a look into your emotions, t

St Monica mother of Augustine

St Monica is the patroness of mothers and it’s easy to understand why. Her persistent prayer and godly example helped to draw her son Augustine away from a life of self indulgence to a life of faith. Not only is she a wonderful example of a Christian mother but also she shows us all how to persevere in prayer for those whom we care about, family and friends. The readings on the Thursday when we remembered her were Psalm 127, Proverbs 31:10-13, 19-20, 30-end, Mark 3:31-end. Today we rememBack in October 2008... The scripture verse that touched me in particular today is – Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. Proverbs 15:22 Love is accountable… I am so glad I had my Grandparents as marriage role models. And I’m glad to have my Aunt as a wife mentor. I would like to have solid “couple” friends who live for Christ, though. But I must admit that I’m just as happy to be accountable to God in this area. That was then, this is now… Plans fail foProverbs 18:22 says that "He who finds a wife, finds a good thing." Proverbs 31:10 says that her worth is "far above rubies." There is nothing like God's Word to stir within the heart the desire to be "gracious, a good wife, far above rubies, virtuous," etc. When we read these verses, we want to be a blessing to our husbands. But many times, daily life gets into the way! Babies crying, laundry going, supper cooking, work, helping kids with homework, taking the kids to practice. Womanly Dominion Introduction

Recently I learned that the Girltalk gang had chosen Womanly Dominion: more than a gentle and quiet spirit for the latest book club selection. This post by Carolyn Mahaney piqued my interest, so I ordered the book. We're starting with the Introduction and Chapter 1 this week.I've read many Christian books on being a godly woman. Most tell us that we need to be little more than doormats for the men in our lives. The submissive wife is seen as meek and weak. Author Mark Chanski disagrees:He insists

A ft Mirror

Have you noticed I’ve been focusing on dating, marriage, and relationships in my last few posts? Well, my own wedding is coming up in a few days, so I have a legit excuse…:) Plus, like nothing else, the subject of dating and marriage are two controversial subjects that tend to get the comments box hot and sizzlin’. A post on the moral argument for God’s existence will bring, perhaps, a comment or two , but bring up the subject of da Under the post, All in all, they're just bricks in the wall..., a reader asked if sex has anything to do with how we educate our children? As a pastor to many undergrad and grad students the past fifteen years here in Bloomington ; but more, as the father of five children, two sons and three daughters; this question has been relentless in its presence in every aspect of my calling as pastor and father. As one effort to wrestle with the issue, back in the late ni

Sermon St Mary Magdalene

22 July 2009 at Salem Lutheran Church, Gretna, LA Text: John 20:1-2, 10-18 and Prov 31:10-31 In the name of + Jesus. Amen. Satan was really interested in Mary Magdalene. And in retrospect, we can see why. Mary was the first witness of our Lord Jesus after His resurrection. Mary was the reporter who broke the news, the good news, the gospel itself – to the world. Mary was not an apostle, but is sometimes called the “apostle to the apostles” – for though she was not sent to preach, s

Now that was FANN-TASTIC!!! Samantha is my favorite magician.

Also, thanks for everything in 789. I wanted to ask you guys about so many things but given how many people were there, I think I was caught off guard. Seeing KevJumba and TimothyDeLaGhetto behind you when you walked in made me really stunned.

I always hated those "first" comments. On 789, I was the "first" guy. I don't know if I should be thrilled or depressed.
