Paul Kirk to Replace Kennedy

Well, Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick has made his announcement. Paul Kirk will serve as Teddy Kennedy's interim replacement until a January 19th special election. A lot of people, including me, were pulling for Michael Dukakis. I don't like the sound of this: Patrick faced lobbying on Dukakis’s behalf from political associates of the onetime presidential candidate, erstwhile members of his inner circle, and party activists, all of whom make up a part of the Democratic Party that waINDIAN WELLS, Calif. - California Republicans spent much of their weekend convention soul-searching over the battered party's future and debating a plan of attack for 2010, when they hope to capitalize on anti-tax protests and growing national conservative anger over President Barack Obama's health care proposals . Most of the attention during their three-day convention at a resort near Palm Springs was on the three GOP gubernatorial candidates, former eBay chief executive Meg Whitman, state

Polling and Political WrapUp

A short edition of the Wrap for a Friday, as we head into what promises to be a hot summer-esque weekend: CA-Sen: Rasmussen Polls Golden State, Finds Boxer Golden Rasmussen, on what appears to be a tour of the 2010 Senate races, makes their way to California, and finds Barbara Boxer under 50%, but with solid leads over both GOP challengers . In a move state Republicans called “a stunning example of Democrat hypocrisy,” the Massachusetts legislature voted to reverse a 2004 law that permitted filling vacancies in the United States Senate only through a special election. This power play immediately paved the way for Democrat Governor Deval Patrick to name former Ted K

We can't walk from one desk to the other over here in SSP World Headquarters without tripping over another new poll that we haven't written up yet. Let's take care of 'em in a roundup. All polls must go! AZ-Gov/Sen : Arizona GOP Gov. Jan Brewer is not only imperiled in the general election, she's also extremely vulnerable to a primary challenge, according to PPP. With the President and Congress’s plan to pass comprehensive health care reform reaching increasingly high levels of unpopularity, and reconciliation becoming an impediment, the leadership of the Senate is rumored to be preparing a new secret plan to railroad the bill through the Their bid to stop Paul Kirk from being sworn in as Senator was thrown out. His appointment is an interim appointment and expires in January, 2010, after a special election is concludeWASHINGTON — Fall River, my hometown in Massachusetts, has been a bastion of devotion to the Kennedy family since John F. Kennedy’s 1952 Senate race. We were so faithful that the turnout slogan in my dear city could well have been: “Vote for the Kennedy of your choice, but vote.” It’s like that in a lot of places around the state. A factory worker with no political credentials got elected state treasurer in 1954 just because his name happened to be John F. Kennedy. When that JFK later ranWell, Ted Kennedy's been buried for almost a month, and we're getting a glimpse of his legacy. And -- as should be expected -- it's a remarkable conflation of greed, corruption, chicanery, and political maneuverings. First up, his successor in the United States Senate has been named.
