How to Not Cry Over Spilled Milk

Recently I knocked from my fridgetop an adorable little bottle of Spanish balsamic vinegar my mom brought from Barcelona. I was feeling especially grounded that day and somehow, before it even struck the floor, I was over it. On a different day I might have sworn and fretted about it, cursed myself as I picked up its pieces, felt bad about wrecking a thoughtful gift from my mom, and pondered my chronic failure to keep my belongings organized and in good condition. One thought may have led to a

Hotspot When BG went to Center Parcs

I knew how much of an impact our recent trip to Center Parcs had made when this past Saturday night, I listened to the boyf waxing lyrical about it, telling a crowd of people at our friends house warming , how everyone should go, and describing it in great, nostalgic detail. What’s even funnier though, is aside from having a reverent audience, yet again, there were a few people who immediately ‘admitted’ that they had been Starting with the human eye…. Retinal implant could bring sight to blind says MIT team

MIT researchers have come up with a retinal implant that sends images from a glasses-mounted camera directly to the brain, via the optic nerve.  Intended to bring some degree of vision back to the blind, the system should begin real-world testing in around three years time, according to MIT electrical engineering professor John Wyatt. While the vision the implant allows for won’t be as clear as true 20/20 sight, what it will do is allow users to recognize faces and navigate more freelyCone cells, or cones, are photoreceptor cells in the retina of the eye that function best in relatively bright light. The cone cells gradually become sparser towards the periphery ...Have you ever heard of the Kruithof Curve? Back in the early 1940’s when fluorescent sources were beginning to affect the way we thought about light and color rendering, a scientist that worked for Philips named Arie Andries Kruithof performed some informal tests on how the human eye relates the amount of light in a given time of day to the color temperature of the light source.  Typically, human beings like higher color temperature light sources during the daytime hours, and lower color tempe

Hydroponic Tomato Growing Explained

HYDROPONIC TOMATO PLANTS VIDEO Coir Hydroponics, which literally means, “working water,” is the development of plant life with no soil. The grower provides  the plants with every one of the nutrients they would usually acquire from the soil, through water in its place. Hydroponics can  be used on a mass production level, or it can certainly be scaled down for use by the home gardener equally well with excellent results. The French Laundry Was Not Everything I Dreamed it Would Be

This post is extremely difficult to write, and I do it with great sadness. I don’t even remember how long I’ve been waiting to go to The French Laundry 6640 Washington Street , Yountville , CA 94599 , often named as the best restaurant in the United States. It’s pretty difficult to get reservations, which requires constant redialing for 40+ minutes, exactly 2 months to the date you want to go. After that, no change can be made to the reservation. Since we live in NY, I literalSeptember17 But on the other hand, those pesky Angels gained a half-game.Anyway, that’s it for tonight. 285 Responses to “The magic number is …” zmaster September 17th, 2009 at 9:51 pmpete u were kidding about leaving.. right? jennifer September 17th, 2009 at 9:51 pmShould really be 9Roger Maris but I’ll take it. realistic September 17th, 2009 at 9:52 pmI see you really started following your new team. that was quick their game just ended 100 pitches of fun... THE CHICKEN COOP by Joe Bucci

My Cousins - Joey, David, and Joan - are in the foreground with Pa, our Grandfather Sullivan. I'm the one in the suit. Before he died from the drug overdose my Cousin Joey started writing the story of his life. He wrote it when he was allowed access to a computer while in jail. What follows is the largest chunk of it I have available to reproduce.Joan, Joey, Me - Christmas, 1967Joey appears to have made three different starts at writing his story. The results demonstrate the potential for such methods to eventually cure human vision disorders, from color blindness to possibly other conditions leading to full blindness. The primate patients, named Dalton and Sam, are two adult, male squirrel monkeys that were red-green color-blind since birth – a condition that similarly affects human males more than females. With many thanks to Regal Literary , here's an excerpt from The Golden City by John Twelve Hawks , the third book in his Fourth Realm Trilogy. Gene therapy gives full colour vision to colourblind monkeys

People with red-green colour blindness find it difficult to tell red hues from green ones because of a fault in a single gene. Their inheritance robs them of one of the three types of colour-sensitive cone cells that give us colour vision. With modern technology, scientists might be able to insert a working copy of the gene into the eye of a colour-blind person, restoring full colour vision.   You might think that the brain and eye would need substantial rewiring to make use of the new harDate: September 17, 2009 Title: Top Ten Telescope Mistakes for Beginners Podcaster: Robin Scagell Link:   www.stargazing.org.uk Description: You've just bought your very first telescope, and you're excited by all the wonders you're going to see and the things you're going to discover. But then -- what's gone wrong? Instead of sparkling stars, you see absolutely nothing! This isn't uncommon, even with the very latest all-singing, all-dancing automatic telescopes. They flooded our Web site and told me that if I got on the floor with them, they’d break me like Ivan Drago. In May, I called the Girls out again, but this time, they said, “Bring it on.” After we straightened out the liability situation – I was the first media member to skate in a full-contact scrimmage – I laced up a pair

The Rods and Cones of the Human Eye

Rods and Cones. The retina contains two types of photoreceptors, rods and cones. The rods are more numerous, some 120 million, and are more sensitive than the cones. There are 40+ thousand people these days eating on the playa every year and there’s really no way to encapsulate that entire experience but if I had to point to one word it would be BACON ! Sizzling salty swine in a pan. Love the smell and the taste of that stuff out on the playa. Make it free range if you will, but BACON . At Burning Man, Bacon is a gateway meat for vegetarians. Bacontarians , if you will. They may taste it when that morning pan fried aroma is slinking through camp and ofollow the cones, originally uploaded by thismeik. they will lead us there... nyru kidding me.... i'm back mentally... the head is clear and concise...it's a long story.
