My Fathers Workshop

My father had retired from working as a seaman over a decade ago. Since he stayed mostly at home, he had the time to fix whatever it is needed to mend in our almost dilapitated house. When we moved in to another house, the walls are more sturdy than the previous one. But the problem parts are the water pipes and the roof. So everytime it pours heavily outside, it rains on the inside as well.Luckily, over the years that he’d work for in the sea, he was able to save some hand tools that I used to On Monday, PJM published my piece titled “March on Washington: How Big Was the Crowd.” It contained several estimates of the actual number of people who attended the mach on the Capitol on September 12.The legacy media seems to have converged on an estimate of 60,000 to 70,000 people. This appears to be sourced to the D.C. Fire Department,

Tenacity of the Text a Response

Introduction The issue of the tenacity of the text is one of the important points that was raised by Dr. White in his debate with Dr. Ehrman recently . One of the illustrations of the tenacity of the text is the illustration of a jigsaw puzzle set that includes 1,010 pieces although only 1,000 are the pieces to be included . Ehrman does not admit this principle of the tenacity of the text, insisting instead that there are

Recommended Home Improvement and Construction Tools

Every day readers ask me to recommend home improvement and construction tools. So I’ve decided to start a list of the tools that I use and recommend. Over time I’ll continue adding tools in different categories so you should be able to find a recommendation or two for most any tool you’re looking for advice on. Safety Week Viewer Project

This safety-related project comes from Tim. He writes: Here’s a “woodworking” project that deals with safety concerning its use. My wife’s grandmother was having a hard time getting in and out of her home, sometimes falling in the process. My wife’s grandfather had to help steady her and her walker as the struggled up the steps.  So I volunteered to design and build them a ramp to safely and easily ‘come and go’.  I know that this falls more in the carpentry Before digging into our list of 17 garage woodshop plans I wanted to cite my inspiration for this collection: a post at WoodNet called Garage woodshop questions . The whole thread is an awesome resource for anyone planning a new woodshop in their garage. Here are the tidbits that I thought offered the best advice… 6 Garage Woodshop Tips from Woodnet: 1) “Put everything on wheels.” 2) “One thing that I learned when I had my garage workshop is the value of organization and frequent cleaningFirst, I want to thank you all for your support in the 48-Hour Challenge! Bat house

My buddy and I spent a Sunday in the garage making a bat house. This is a lot like a bird house, except the objective is to attract flying mammals, not avians. Bats are getting crowded out by development, and many bat species are listed as endangered. We are doing our small part to save these species by turning the sides of our houses into homes for bats. While protecting bats from extinction ... ... both. Blocks don't take a great range of wood sizes and the jig types tend to have blades that bend as they cut, taking the cut off true. Will the be up to the job of neatly cutting ... the greater the tpi, the better the cut, but even a fine circular saw blade seems a very low tpi compared to tenon saw types. Does the 4000rpm balance it out?

Favorite magician... Hard to beat David Blaine's street magic routine. He did this one trick where he had a random person think of a word, and then a taxi drove by with that word painted on the side of it. Crazy!
