Windows and Windows Server R RTM

Yes I know I’m a day late but hey I had to get Windows 7 RTM installed on my primary machine before I headed off to the US.  At 1.40 PST on July 22nd 2009 we released Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 simultaneously to what we call RTM or Released to Manufacturing.  This means we declared build 7600 as the final build ready to ship  to customers.  This is also the first time since 2000 that we have been in-sync with both the server and client operating systems.  This is quite a mil

Jobs Update Unhappy Times are Here Again

Interesting data on the U.S. employment situation today. The payroll number is bad enough that it should chill the chatter about green shoots, mainly because it is no longer "less bad" than the month before. .I'm sorry I can't offer my usual picturing employment chart. New MS Excel software is not allowing me to screen capture the graphic.  And yet, I still want to share an update on the severity in the change iMicrosoft CEO: Computers will figure you out The next focus of research, Ballmer tells Charlotte audience, is machines that intuit what user wants. By Andrew Dunn http://www.charlotteobserver.com/ In the next 10 years, computers as flexible as a sheet of paper will replace notepads and newspapers, while others will be able to intuit what you're trying to find online, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said Friday to a group of Charlotte technology workers. Photos Windows Mobile concept art from former Microsoft employee

Robin Zhu, who is now the Founder and the Creative Director of RIGO Design, used to be the Visual UX Lead for Microsoft between 2004 and 2008. He plans to launch a personal site on September 9, 2009 to showcase his portfolio, but Chinese site hxxland managed to get a sneak peak. Remember the supposed leak of Windows Mobile 7 screenshots? Robin’s “concept art” looks remarkably similar. I’m of the few who think Microsoft can stage a come back, especially after loo

Thursday, June 25, 2009 Digitisation Is All About The Money From the Brave New World Blog : Some 10 years ago an 18-year-old Shawn Fanning released his Napster file-sharing program on the internet and started to destabilise the business models that had supported media over the best part of the last century - a digital revolution that continues today. Ballmer Gets Excited About BING

« Twitter's Ev & Biz on NOW and the Future | Main | Weymouth & Huffington Talk Journalism: On & Offline » Steve Ballmer showed the D crowd a sneak peak demo of Microsoft Bing, their new search initiative slated to go live on June 3rd. We were shown several use cases. It’s almost as if Bing starts off where Google leaves off with a little Ask Jeeves in the middle. For example, if you do a search for a particular city, you can learn about specific events for that BT to roll-out faster broadband BT Broadband is boosting the speeds of millions of its customers to up to 20 megabits per second at no extra cost. The rollout is part of the firm’s planned upgrade of lines to so-called ADSL2+ technology. Microsofts Bing Search Engine Goes Live

Microsoft officially rolled out its Bing search engine on Monday, two days ahead of its scheduled June 3 release. The software giant provided a sneak peak at Bing last week at the D: All Things Digital conference in Carlsbad, Calif. "Today, search engines do a decent job of helping people navigate the Web and find information, but they don't do a very good job of enabling people to use the information they find," Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, said at the time. Ballmer on papers Wrong as usual

There’s lots of buzz out there about how Microsoft supremo Steve Ballmer figures the newspaper will be dead in 10 years — oh yes, and magazines too. Here’s what he said to ... . But not as many people do those things as used to do them when those forms of entertainment were at their peak. I think it will be exactly the same with newspapers — I fully expect to see people reading them for the remainder ... I actually reached the summit of that peak once, in college.  I believe John was there to witness the event. It involved a MIPS simulator and several bottles of champagne. Our friends over at Engadget got a sneak peak of the new Zune HD when Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer showed the gadget off to them during the D7 conference. Ballmer showed of the new OLED screen with a Pixar animated movie. According to Ballmer the device will be shipping in a month which is a lot earlier than the September 5th date we have heard. Update - Microsoft have ...

Its Ballmer Hon

"Baltimoreans live in “Ballmer, Merlin” off the coast of the “Chest Peak ” bay, not too far from the capital “Nap Lis.” When they are thirsty, they want some “wooder” or “Natie Bow.” Their baseball team are the “O-reos” and when they want to go to the beach they go “Downey Owe Shin” ~ from slanguage.com. I am basically a city girl, being so close to Washington, DC. Maybe I know my city too well,In a discussion and demonstration at the Wall Street Journal's tech executive conference, D: All Things Digital 6, Microsoft honchos Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates demonstrated some of the flagship features of Windows 7, the successor to Vista that the company hopes will fare better with consumers. read more
