A $20,000 donation from an anonymous donor will keep the program afloat for the next two years. Fitzroy history hoodlums loitering and obstructing the footpath

I am so amused by the language in old newspaper reports of minor incidences. For example, The Argus, Friday 5 August 1921, p9 , quotes a magistrate who says “Fitzroy has a very bad reputation for very many things, and among them is the occupation of the footpath by boys.” That’s right, boys. On the footpath. Loitering with intent to obstruct said footpath, it was assumed. However, they were discharged. Hoodlums loitering on Brunswick St must be much worse than larrikins gawping about on Smith A daily newspaper with a full range of state, national, international and sports news serving Fremont, Newark and Union City.

Fitzroy history the Trojan princess of the Primrose push

This is one of the best newspaper articles I’ve ever read. It concerns a fight between the Fitzroy based ‘Primrose Push’ and the rival ‘Bourke St Rats’ in 1914. I’ll summarise the article, from The Argus, Wednesday 11 March, 1914, p15 , which is presented in full below. Naturally, a woman is to blame, in this case a ‘Fitzroy damsel of 14 years’. She likes a ‘foreigner’, a boy in a Melbourne gang, not a local Fitzroy boy from the gang her brother is a member of. She’s described as akin to Helen Local newspaper. Provides online news, sports, agriculture, obituaries, opinion, and classifieds. Also includes business history, subscription information, and links.I've been in talks with Brighton's independent newspaper The Argus in recent weeks, nothing confirmed as yet, but during our conversations a story came up about people complaining about the number of new black bins in Brighton. ...

Georgia newspapers publisher files for bankruptcy

Since Grayson isn’t around anymore to post some disjointed blather about “new media,” I guess it’s left to me to post this story. Minus the blather. Triple Crown Media Inc., which owns daily and weekly newspapers in Georgia, on Monday became at least the 11th newspaper publisher to seek bankruptcy protection over the past year. In a prepackaged Chapter 11 filing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, the Lexington, Ky.-based company listed assets of about $33 million and liabilities of abPublished weekly with local and sports news, obituaries, features, events, classifieds and subscription information.Sep.15, 2009 in UncategorizedThis is an abridged version of the article “Was the Worlds Most Famous Detective, Aston Villas First Celebrity Football Fan ?”As the original article was a bit long for people to include on their websites or ezines. And I have added a surprise extra Villa fan, that was not included in my original list. There are now twenty three celebrity Villa fans on my list,I know there are probably more. Remembering Tadd Gero

On Aug. 16, Tadd Gero ’08 sent a short e-mail to 25 of his closest friends. “Friends,” he wrote. “I have severe pneumonia and am in the ICU at Columbia Green Hospital in Hudson, NY for a while, which also has wireless? Love, Tadd. I’m so sorry if I forgot anyone.” It turned out to be the last thing Gero’s friends heard from him. The next day, Gero, 22, passed away from the resistant strain of pneumonia that had forced him into the hospital only days before. It was a muted and sudden end

What Do You Mean My Point Of View

This summer, I was given the opportunity to do some freelance reporting for a Los Angeles NPR affiliate where I was interning. I had pitched a story idea about young people and financial illiteracy, my mind filled with images of myself tracking down California school board members, scrutinizing failed legislation and shedding new light on the economic crisis. Instead, my editor told me to talk to my mom. She suggested framing the issue from my family’s experience. And from my own perspectiveLocal officials and state police are confirming that a pro-life advocate was shot and killed outside a high school in this Michigan town. HMetro a strategy to preempt other newspapers

According to the story, Bay Area residents could see regional editions as early as November. For many years, we have anticipated this move and felt it was inevitable. Why? As the article points out, the current Bay Area papers — The Chronicle, The Mercury News and the Oakland Tribune — are perceived as under-serving the mark

Quadrophenia Theatre Royal Brighton

The battle of Brighton” cried the Argus newspaper in 1964 after the mods and rockers descended on the seaside town for a violent face-off. One group, in their sharp suits and parkas, rode scooters and listened to Jamaican ska and British beat music; the other favoured leather, motorbikes, greasy hair and rock’n'roll. These seaside skirmishes were seemingly forgotten until 1973 when The Who’s Pete Townshend, pop’s sharpest chronicler of adolescence, wrote Quadrophenia. It was a rock opera hailed

New Take on the Refugee Question

Today's Weekend Argus carried a front page spread shedding some new and interesting light on the case of Brandon Huntley. It turns out that hundreds of South Africans have already been granted asylum over the past few years, yet none has caused such an uproar as Huntley. Could it be that it's because he's white? It's very difficult to come to a different conclusion, in fact. Brandon Huntley, South Africa's white refugee who 'fled' to Canada to escape being targetted by 'black criminals' is noThe Argus for news, sport, Brighton and Hove Albion, entertainment, video, blogs and for ... Hypocritical ANC Run Crying to Canadians

Oddly enough, there are millions of refugees in South Africa from neighbouring Zimbabwe, a country where there are no problems, according to the ANC. In fact, the ANC are good pals with Robert Mugabe, and don't consider South Africa's accepting floods of refugees from there as in any way insulting to Uncle Bob. Not so with the Canadian acceptance of ONE South African refugee. That's "disgusting" and "racist". Well, it would be wouldn't it. A collection of news stories today reveal the tru
